New Graduate

For this interview, under the theme of "Works Applications from a New Employee's Perspective," we spoke with a new graduate employee who joined the company in 2025 and was assigned to the Sales Department.
Please tell us about your career history.
I was a member of the baseball team in junior high and high school and practiced hard every day. I also experienced the position of organizing the team as a manager and was able to develop a sense of responsibility.
I entered the Faculty of Letters at Waseda University and majored in Western History. Through studying the background of historical events and the transition of people's thought, I feel that I was able to acquire the ability to think logically and read and understand materials.
I joined Works Applications as a new graduate in April 2025 and currently belong to the East Japan Sales Department. I am currently learning the basics of sales one by one through on-the-job training (OJT), in which I learn practical operations while accompanying senior employees.
A "job that fits me" found through job hunting
How did you go about your job search?
When I started job hunting in the spring of my third year of university, I focused on the publishing industry because I was a literature major and loved books. As I continued to apply to major publishing companies until the spring of my fourth year, I began to wonder if I was really suited for this industry, and I decided to reexamine my self-analysis.
Looking back on my long baseball experience, I remembered that I was very focused on winning and losing, and that I had experienced a great sense of accomplishment when I could beat a strong team. From this, I realized that I have the characteristics of "hating to lose," "liking to take on difficult challenges," and "feeling satisfaction when I see results in numbers.
Based on this self-understanding, I began to think, "If I am going to work, I would rather take on difficult challenges than easy ones. As I researched sales jobs that would allow me to utilize my communication skills, I realized that a job dealing with intangible products such as software would require a deep understanding of customer issues and a wide range of proposals, allowing me to hone my skills to a higher level. In addition, I was looking for an environment where my efforts and growth would be evaluated fairly, so I became attracted to the IT industry, where people tend to be evaluated based on their own achievements.
What were the deciding factors in joining Works Applications?
While searching for various IT companies, I came across our company and was strongly impressed from the first interview. During the interview process, I felt that the company was looking closely at my thoughts and strengths.
What was particularly impressive to me during the selection process was the assignment to simulate the way of thinking in sales activities. It is difficult for students to have a concrete image of sales practice, but through this assignment, I was able to experience the workflow of sales and deepen my understanding. Unlike the selection process at other companies, it was very fresh and strongly left a lasting impression on me.
Please tell us about your future goals.
First of all, as a sales person, I aim to contribute to sales by making optimal proposals to customers, and to be able to work with confidence. After that, in the future, I would like to become someone who can support junior staff and encourage their growth.
I myself have received a lot of support from my seniors during my training. What has left a particularly strong impression on me is the way they relate to me in a way that develops my thinking skills necessary for work, rather than just teaching me answers one way or another. For example, when I stumbled during role-playing training that simulates a sales meeting with a customer, instead of immediately giving me the answer, I would ask, "How do you think the customer felt in this situation? What do you think is missing in this proposal? He guided me to develop the habit of thinking for myself through such questions as "How do you think the customer felt in this situation?
Through these experiences, I have come to think that I would like to eventually become a senior sales representative who can help others reach their potential. In order to achieve this goal, I would like to steadily build up my abilities by first achieving solid results in the sales work that lies ahead of me.

Please tell us about the characteristics of your work environment.
At our company, you can flexibly decide whether to come to the office or work remotely, depending on the nature of your work and your own lifestyle. For example, if you want to concentrate on creating documents, you can choose to work remotely, but if you want to brainstorm ideas with senior employees and colleagues, you can come to the office. However, the Sales Department has days when we come to the office, and we also value opportunities for face-to-face communication.
Another feature of our company is that we are very close to our CEO and board members. The boardroom is located in the same area as the employees' offices, so communication is possible on a daily basis. After I joined the company, I had an opportunity to go to lunch with all new graduate employees and the CEO, and we talked in a casual atmosphere. Thanks to this environment, I feel that an atmosphere is naturally created where I can feel comfortable sharing my opinions with management.
To those of you who are job hunting.
Please give a message to the students reading this interview article.
During the job hunting process, you are exposed to a lot of information, and you may feel uneasy and wonder if you are doing the right thing. I myself was searching for a company that would be a good fit for me as I groped my way through the process. It was during this time that I attended our company's information session and felt that it matched my own orientation.
If you are a person who wants to think for yourself and take on challenges, and if you have the desire to grow while engaging in friendly competition with a team full of excellent employees, please apply for our company's selection process!
