For this interview, under the theme of "Works Applications Evangelists," we spoke with the head and manager of the technical sales department (the role of which is to accompany the sales staff and provide technical explanations).
ERP Package Software "HUE" Solves Various Customer Issues
What is the appeal of the ERP package software "HUE"?
HUE" is an "ERP system focusing on the accounting field" that is mainly used by accountants and financiers. There are several types of systems, including financial accounting, management accounting, and expense accounting, and we introduce the necessary system according to the customer's issues and objectives. Since there are a number of functions and applications within a system, we will configure the necessary functions to meet the customer's needs.
All companies need to perform accounting procedures, but Japanese business practices are complex and accounting standards differ by industry. For example, the cost of sales in the manufacturing industry includes expenses, but in an IT company, it becomes selling, general, and administrative expenses. Therefore, many companies cannot find a system that meets their own accounting standards and develop their own systems. As they proceed with in-house development, the number of functions increases and the system becomes more and more complex. As a result, the number of people who can use the system within the company decreases, and the system may become a system that can only be managed by certain people.
HUE is a solution to this problem. HUE" has thousands of standard functions that can be used in a wide variety of industries. By selecting and configuring the functions required by each customer from among the standard functions, "HUE" can be used in a way that meets the needs of each company. When new functions are required, we will add them free of charge. The added functions will be included as "standard functions" so that all customers who have installed HUE can use it.
Our customers have commented that "HUE is highly scalable and can be used permanently in the future," and "HUE is built on a unique philosophy not found in conventional accounting systems," and we will continue to make it a product that meets their expectations.

M.F., you are certified as a "HUE Evangelist," which is an in-house certification system. What do you do during sales activities to convey that the ERP package software "HUE" is an attractive product?
First of all, the "HUE Evangelist" is responsible for proudly communicating the appeal of HUE internally and externally based on an understanding of Products / Services and the corporate culture.
To be certified as a HUE Evangelist, a person must pass an examination that tests his or her knowledge of the company's HUE products, as stipulated in the HUE Evangelist System.
There are four ranks from the top: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. I have been certified as a "Gold" evangelist in recognition of my product knowledge, internal and external PR activities that utilize this knowledge, and my achievements in speaking at events outside the company. My role is to actively communicate internally and externally.
When I talk with customers, I am conscious of the fact that they come from a variety of backgrounds, so I try to explain things to them based on their job title, industry, and other attributes, as well as their level of understanding of IT. For example, if I am talking with an accountant who is not familiar with IT terms such as "ERP package software," I try to avoid using IT jargon when explaining the product and use a lot of metaphors.
Also, naturally, there are a certain number of companies among our clients that are concerned about costs. In general, companies that provide systems often provide a rough estimate at the beginning of the project, and then, as we work out the necessary requirements, the standard features of the system do not cover the customer's needs, and the need to develop additional features arises. The final estimate may be higher than the initial cost. If there is a large discrepancy between the initial and the final price, the customer may have to apply again for internal approval, which can be time-consuming.
As T.T. mentioned, our system has many standard functions and covers most of the customer's requests, so there is almost no need to develop additional functions, and we can provide an accurate price from the first time.
However, "HUE" is not inexpensive, so we are not competing on price, but rather on the question, "What is the issue the customer wants to solve in the first place?" We are conscious of conducting sales activities focusing on "what effects will be generated" by introducing our products to solve such issues.
What kind of companies do you want to use "HUE" ERP package software?
Our mission is "We contribute to the expansion of corporate value by increasing corporate productivity" and "We change the concept of 'work' and make work a more creative activity. We would like to see companies with a desire to improve their business processes to increase productivity and grow their business more.
Many Japanese companies want to improve their business efficiency, but because their business processes are complex, they do not know how to improve them, and many have given up on improving their productivity.
We not only sell "HUE," but also provide comprehensive, companionable services that support the introduction of the system and propose improvements to business processes after introduction, thereby helping our customers solve their problems.
Since the sense of issues and needs of our customers change with the changing times, we aim to build a relationship with our customers over the medium to long term, rather than a one-off relationship.
What kind of support system do you provide after the introduction of "HUE" ERP package software?
As T.T. mentioned, "HUE" has a large number of standard functions and covers about 90% of the business and functional requirements of major companies. Even if you install the system, it will be meaningless if you cannot use it properly.
We have established a customer-specific inquiry form and information bulletin board on the Web to provide support in the event of problems, and we hold various subcommittees with the participation of user associations consisting of more than several hundred companies that have installed the system. In addition to providing information, we also provide a forum for our customers to exchange opinions about their business operations so that they can make even more effective use of our products.
In addition, regular meetings are held between our consultants and customers to provide stable services, expand the scope of product use, and eliminate communication losses.
As laws and rules, as well as company conditions and people change, the purposes for which "HUE" is used and the functions required may also change. We are committed to a menu of support to ensure that the appeal of "HUE" is conveyed to every customer through regular information exchanges with our clients.
Working with HUE ERP package software
You were involved in the development of "HUE" for many years.
Our development staff are required to design and define requirements for systems that are commonly used by customers in a variety of industries and business sectors, which makes the work extremely challenging. However, I think the appeal of this position is that it allows me to acquire soft skills such as planning and thinking skills in addition to hard skills such as technical skills, and to grow into a developer with a broad perspective.
We also provide maintenance and support for our customers after they have installed our systems, so we are able to hear feedback on our systems directly from our customers, which makes it easier for us to understand the needs of the market.
Understanding the needs of our customers motivates me because I feel that I am involved in the development of products that are useful to them.
Recently, we developed new functions to make "HUE" compatible with the invoice system.
In doing so, we listened to the opinions of various customers and developed the system, which was highly evaluated by them.
I believe that the most rewarding part of a development job is when a customer is impressed by a product you have developed and thanks you for it. It is very rewarding when a customer directly expresses their gratitude.
Similar to what T.T. mentioned, I think the appeal of working as a developer at our company is that I can be involved in everything from the upstream process of system planning and design to the downstream process of development and operation, which allows me to understand what is necessary for each process and to develop from a variety of perspectives.
I also think that being involved in the development of products that have an impact on many customers is another appealing aspect of working as a developer. Unlike products that are developed for individual companies, even the development of a single new function in ERP package software can affect thousands of companies. The scope of impact is large, so the responsibility is great, but it is very rewarding to be able to contribute to a large number of customers when we are successful.

We are waiting for colleagues who can help us expand our ERP package software "HUE" together.
Do you have a message for job seekers reading this interview?
This is the perfect environment for those who "want to work independently and take on difficult challenges. Since I joined the company, I have been given a great deal of discretion and have been able to take on various challenges.
Whenever I have an idea for a new job, I can immediately consult with my supervisor, and the company respects what I want to do.
If you have the desire to act independently and grow, we encourage you to apply!
As I mentioned in the interview, "HUE" has been introduced by more than several thousand customers, and the scope of impact of developing even a single new function is large, so the level of quality of development required is extremely high.
Because of this, there is a lot of knowledge and know-how that we can absorb that other companies do not have, and we have an environment in which we can grow. Of course, you will not grow by yourself just because you join the company, but if you have a desire to acquire skills, I think this is the right company for you.
We are looking forward to receiving applications from people who want to grow and take on challenging and demanding work.

Please tell us about the "HUE Evangelist System," which promotes employees' activities to increase awareness and attractiveness of the company's products to customers and the market, and to educate people about the need for DX.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, the "HUE Evangelist System" is an in-house system to certify "evangelists" who conduct product awareness activities by administering tests to test their knowledge of the company's product, "HUE. Employees who are certified as "Evangelists" receive support from the company and are responsible for voluntarily communicating the company's products outside the company and spreading the value of the products.
This newly established system will be tested for the first time in April and May 2023 to determine the level of understanding of products and functions and the ability to communicate them to the outside world. I hope that employees who pass the exam will become "Evangelists" and actively communicate the advantages of HUE both inside and outside the company.
As I was just appointed as an "Evangelist" this year, I would like to communicate the value of our products both inside and outside the company even more than before so that I will not be outdone by the "Evangelists" who will emerge in the future.
I am involved in the design of the "HUE Evangelist System," which defines an Evangelist as someone who understands Products/Services and the corporate culture, takes pride in communicating them both internally and externally, and creates a "Wow! We would like to increase the number of human resources who can contribute to the expansion of awareness of HUE.
This system is not only for employees in development and sales, who are usually involved with products, but also for all positions, including those in general affairs, accounting, and other indirect departments.
The most important thing for an evangelist is to "love the product. If they are attached to the company's products, they will be able to think deeply about how to convey the appeal of the product and communicate it both internally and externally.
I hope that people from different backgrounds within the company will communicate from various angles, so that the appeal of "HUE" can be conveyed to as many people as possible.
Information in this article is current as of the date of publication.
