Kyoto Consumers' Cooperative Union is one of Japan's leading consumers' cooperatives centered in Kyoto Prefecture, and in addition to its home delivery and storefront businesses, it also engages in welfare, mutual aid, funeral services, and other businesses related to people's lives. In the past, the accounting system has been developed additionally to the mainframe system in order to respond to changes in the business environment, such as legal revisions and expansion of scale. As a result, the system had become increasingly complex, making it difficult to implement new initiatives such as improving management accounting operations and consolidating group business management, and reducing the maintainability of the system. Therefore, in 2014, a study was initiated to discontinue the existing accounting system and review accounting business processes.

HUE Classic" was selected for its ability to handle the unique accounting operations of a consumer cooperative with standard functions.

In considering a new accounting system, Kyoto Co-op compared several package systems and selected "HUE Classic" based on the following three points in particular.

  1. The business model incorporates functions required by all types of industries and business categories into the standard functions, so the coverage of the business areas envisioned by Kyoto Co-op is high, and the functions can be expanded to meet any shortfalls.
  2. The ability to respond free of charge to various changes in the business environment, including revisions to laws and regulations and internal system changes, leads to long-term cost reductions.
  3. By using BIPS*, a free service provided by Works, it is possible to improve business operations on a permanent basis using past HUE Classic operations at other companies in the same industry and at the company itself as an indicator.

By making maximum use of the operational know-how cultivated through Works' extensive experience in implementing systems for major private-sector companies, Kyoto Co-op will further strengthen its accounting operations by improving the efficiency of budget management and financial closing operations, upgrading management accounting operations, and consolidating the operations of group companies. Works will continue to support the efficiency of accounting operations by expanding functions for co-ops, such as weekly grasping of management accounting indicators such as the supply increase rate and supply surplus rate, which are unique to consumer cooperatives.

(*) "BIPS (Business Improvement Planning Support)

This is a free service for client companies using the "HUE Classic" AC series to support the improvement of accounting and financial operations not only at the time of system introduction, but also continuously after the system goes live. HUE Classic" operational data from each company will be acquired by Works, and the operational status will be analyzed using a proprietary analysis system. By consolidating the operational data into Works, it is possible to not only analyze each company's accounting and finance operations, but also compare them with the operations of other companies. In addition, the consultant in charge of the project will propose operational improvement measures and provide a forum for sharing operational improvements being undertaken within each client company.
