ArielAirOne, a system that promotes business efficiency in companies

What kind of product is ArielAirOne?

ArielAirOne" is a system called "groupware" that allows companies to manage and share their information. ArielAirOne is unique in that, in addition to these standard features, it allows users to create their own applications called "custom applications," and there are not many "groupware" systems that have this kind of functionality in general.
One of our clients used "ArielAirOne" to develop an application, enabling them to apply for approval on the system instead of using paper, thereby achieving a paperless application process.
Thanks to the significant reduction in paper-based work, they were able to switch to teleworking, and we were pleased to hear that they were able to do so.

What are the strengths of ArielAirOne?

There are several things, but I would like to talk about three points that I feel in the course of my work.

First, since many functions are integrated into one system, I think it is easy to achieve business efficiency with just one Ariel. ArielAirOne" has various applications such as scheduling, file management, bulletin board, and workflow, and can be used as a comprehensive portal site.
The applications and information to be displayed can be set arbitrarily for the entire company, departments, and individuals, allowing smooth access and making it extremely easy to use.

Another strength of the system is that it is easy to migrate from "Notes," which was a popular portal site.
Notes/Domino v9.0.x and v10.0.x (Notes)" will be discontinued in 2022, and customers who have been using Notes will need to upgrade or switch to other companies' products. Our "ArielAirOne" product was developed by the team involved in the development and maintenance of Notes, so the transition from Notes is easy and smooth, and that is why many of our customers have recently adopted "ArielAirOne".

And I think the greatest strength of the product is its ability to develop its own applications, which I mentioned as a feature of the product. Even people with no knowledge of system development can develop applications simply by moving the mouse, and because they can be applied to a wide range of functions, customers can use the system to solve problems they are facing.

Responsible work that requires technical and customer support skills. I take my job seriously.

What is your daily work and what attracts you to it?

I am in charge of technical support, mainly following up with customers who have installed ArielAirOne. There are three main tasks I am responsible for.

The first is to upgrade "ArielAirOne" to improve its functions and performance. I respond as needed to provide better service.

The second is server replacement support. The system becomes slow after daily use, so we need to replace the servers periodically.

The third is a performance survey to check for any problems or improvements in the operation of "ArielAirOne.
In addition to the technical knowledge required for technical support, I am also required to interact with customers, so I think the appeal of this job is that I can acquire both technical and customer service skills in multiple ways.

What are you good at in your job?

The OS of the server on which the customer runs "ArielAirOne" must be "Windows" or "Linux. I think I am good at working with "Linux" among them, which can only be operated by commands. As it happens, many of the customers I have worked for have used "Linux" as their OS, and I have gained experience in dealing with various problems by looking things up on my own or asking questions to my seniors when I don't understand something.

Linux is an OS that we have different strengths and weaknesses in our company. Because there are more things to consider when upgrading than with Windows, and mistakes can be irreversible, so it is easy to feel pressured. It is important to check frequently whether there are any errors in commands and whether the permissions granted are appropriate. I also felt a lot of pressure at first, but after successfully completing a challenging version-up project, I gained confidence and now it has become my favorite OS to work on.

What is the most rewarding moment in your work?

I am very happy that my supervisor has recently entrusted me with the task of performance research. I feel I have grown in my ability to report to the team on the performance status of the system without my supervisor's review.

Also, when I solve a problem, it is very rewarding to be told by the customer or others on the same team that "thanks to you, I was able to solve the problem quickly.

What is the atmosphere of your team like?

I feel that teamwork is very good. It has only been two years since I joined the company, so there are still many things I don't understand, but when I have a problem, my seniors are quick to help me. I feel that the support around me has been very generous since I joined the company.

Our team has a training program for about 2 months when you join the company, regardless of whether you are a new graduate or a mid-career worker, and during that period, you are always connected to your seniors via web-meeting and can ask questions anytime. Since we basically work by telework, communication is more difficult than in person, but thanks to this training program, it is easier to ask questions afterwards.

Also, in terms of working style, many people value their private life. I feel that the work environment allows for a good balance between work and private life. For example, I have colleagues who take long paid vacations to devote themselves to hobbies and refresh themselves, and male employees who take advantage of the "flex work system" to take care of their children, including picking them up at school.

Our "Will

Do you have any goals for the future?

Among the tasks I am currently in charge of, I find the "performance survey," which examines systems for defects and areas for improvement, to be the most rewarding, and I would like to expand the scope of work I can do in the future.

Currently, I often conduct performance surveys of systems in operation, but I would like to challenge myself to conduct performance surveys of the infrastructure that serves as the foundation of the system.

In addition, I believe that the ArielAirOne business as a whole will continue to see an increase in the number of new projects in the future. I would like to further polish my technical expertise so that I can train junior members of the team.

We are waiting for a colleague who can expand our growing product "ArielAirOne" with us.

Do you have a message for job seekers reading this interview?

Works Applications Group is a company that provides an environment for growth. Of course, just because you join a company in any environment does not mean that you will automatically grow, but I believe that this company is suited for those who have the desire to grow and build their careers on their own initiative.

You will often be given opportunities to challenge yourself to do what you want to do, so if you have a strong spirit of challenge, please apply!

What do you think about the flexible work schedule?

I think it is a very good system. On the premise that you produce the required results, you only need to keep the working hours set for each month, so it is very easy to work as you can control your own daily working hours and working style.

For example, if I have personal matters to attend to in the evening, I can start work early in the morning and leave early in the evening, and I can adjust my working hours according to my own life rhythm.

That said, working hours may differ from person to person, so we are both aware of this so that communication within the company does not cross paths or become diluted.

The flex work system is not applicable to some employment contracts and positions.
