T.Y., manager of the legal department, says, "The whole company is in agreement on the direction in which Works needs to improve in the future.
What is important to build a relationship of trust with customers based on legal logic...? We asked him about what he values in his legal work and his vision for the future.

I respond to a wide variety of contracts and consultations from a legal perspective.

As manager of the legal department, I lead a team of five people. My main responsibilities include drafting and reviewing the content of contracts related to a wide variety of transactions, such as license and maintenance agreements with customers, business alliance agreements with partners, and outsourcing agreements with suppliers, as well as preparing and reviewing legal opinions and negotiation policies during negotiations.
In addition, I am in charge of all other legal-related work, such as responding to various consultations from other departments in relation to contracts and laws and regulations, ensuring the legal and proper implementation and operation of company bodies such as shareholders' meetings and board of directors meetings, handling intellectual property rights-related matters, and handling dispute lawsuits.
Most recently, the work related to the company's demerger was a very large project, and I am deeply moved by the fact that it was completed successfully.

I try to provide convincing explanations, taking into consideration the positions of both parties.

Among our legal work, one area that we have to take care of on a daily basis is work related to license and maintenance agreements with our clients. Works Applications provides packaged systems with a high level of business coverage, mainly to large companies.
However, systems employed by large companies generally tend to be contracted or scratch-developed, and customers are sometimes unfamiliar with the contractual structure of packaged systems.
In such cases, it is necessary to reconcile the views of both parties. In addition to explaining the legal basis rationally, we are aware that negotiations are raw. Specifically, I try to anticipate as broadly as possible the feelings, thoughts, and actions of the parties involved and communicate closely with them. I also make an effort to understand the positions of both the client and our sales people and consultants facing the client, and to provide logic that the negotiator can agree with from the bottom of his/her heart.

We aim to create a team that balances individuality based on the premises to be protected.

What is rewarding about working in the legal department is that I get a sense that my work is directly related to the amount of legal risk for the company, and that it is a work where being reasonable is accepted as straightforward.
As a manager leading a team, I also value how I can ensure that everyone in the department can answer the same legal rationale with the same theory, as well as how the members can express their individuality based on the policies to be followed.
We hope to utilize the strengths of individual members and develop them in a well-balanced manner in terms of how to negotiate and pay attention to emotions, which are raw materials.

All employees look in the same direction to build a relationship of trust with our clients.

Since the company split, I feel that the company as a whole is united in its direction regarding what needs to be done to improve the company while retaining the good aspects of the past company.
From now on, as legal affairs, I would like to work in the same direction as the internal staff who come to me for consultation based on such thoughts, so that we can build a new relationship of trust with our clients.
